Join Hannah Lawrence for a six week course exploring the making of functional and beautiful everyday pots: the sessions will focus on slowly and mindfully creating vessels for eating and drinking from. Working in a small group gathered around a big table in the Clay Trap studio, attendees will undertake the task of making vessels using the pinching and coiling methods, foregrounding tactility and a delicacy of form. Elements such as feet, handles and spouts will be added to forms as attendees build their confidence and understanding of the material.
Hannah’s refined and delicate work refers to and draws parallels with neolithic pottery and vessels made from gabbroic clay found only on the Lizard Peninsula: using the same methods of making that were used to make some of our earliest known clay vessels. Having travelled widely around the world, Hannah brings a wealth of experience back home to Cornwall and we are very lucky that she will be sharing some of this with us.
Each attendee will have up to 5 pots fired.
What to bring? All tools and materials will be provided. Wearing old clothes that can get mucky is advisable. Please bring your own apron and towel to each session.
Collection: Ceramic work will be ready 4 weeks after the final workshop to allow time for pieces to be fired. Pots can be collected from the studio at CAST during Open Access Sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings 5:30pm – 8:30pm and Friday afternoons 1:30pm – 4:30pm.
£240 includes tuition, equipment, materials and firing of 5 pieces.
